It's Des-Moines-a-Mania, Brother!!
- This is a guest post by Des Moines qualifier organizer Flying Finn - After the Houston (5/28) and Portland (5/29) Qualifiers, US Air Guitar will be firing on all cylindAIRs when the ridiculous rock show hits Des Moines on 5/30 at Miss Kitty's in Clive. Now in it's third year, this show is sure to be the best yet! But you know already how awesome the show will be, don't you. You came here to get the inside scoop on this year's favorites. Go ahead and call Vegas, because these picks are about as close to a lock as you can get!*
Stack Attack will be competing for a record THIRD STRAIGHT TIME in Des Moines! Will this be the year she finally busts into the winner's circle? Signs point to yes (It's true, I consult my Magic Eight Ball before every Air Guitar contest)! We have it on good authority that she has been practicing hard in the off-season and completely shredded the KC Competition last week (scoring a 5.9 AND a 6.0!!!)
She has the belt! Wait - we don't have a belt. We should totally get a belt. We need two belts. One for Finn and one for everyone else to share. That will work.
Another favorite is sophomore competitor HARVEY WAHLBANGER. He finished in fourth place last year, but still managed to squeak his way into the Midwest Semifinal. That taste was all he needed to dedicate himself to his craft (which is making ridiculous promo videos that would impress even a blind Jake "The Snake" Roberts).
How does Harvey Wahlbanger break into cars? With a SLIM JIM, OOOOOH YEEEEEAAAAAAH!
Third up is Glory Wholesome who has rocked out for several years in Kansas City, but is making her Des Moines debut! She is rocking a different look this year, so there is no telling how the audience will respond, but given the reaction last week in KC, she could easily take the Des Moines Crown!
Domo Arrigolesome, Ms. Glory Wholesome!
Dapper D is another TWO-TIME Des Moines competitor, who is hoping third-time's the charm, and should not be underestimated! For the last two years, his second rounds have been solid, so look for big things here if he can get past the first round!
Dapper? Hardly know her.
As last year's Des Moines Champion, all eyes are on IRON DRAGON to repeat! Can he do it? Who knows, but I can say this: In the entire 2 year history of US Air Guitar in Des Moines, IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!! Questions that need answers: Will he wear a cape again? Will Des Moines be the only competition that the cape doesn't malfunction? Is he still "The Afternoon?"
He called his repeat last year. Before he even won once!
And rounding out this rag-tag group is none other than a man who was recently found... LOST HEARTBREAKER makes his return to the stage! We haven't seen him since he was deathly ill at the National Finals in LA (2013)! Seriously, I think many of us figured he was done. Glad you're finally better! Lost Heartbreaker is one of the best people in Air Guitar. Period. Can he finally put it all together this year and get his first championship?
Heartbreaker always wins the Freebird Round. ALWAYS.
Judging them, and the rest of the competitors will be an ALL-Star panel of judges. Jen Piper from our sponsor 5 Point Studios Tattooing & Body Piercing will be our rookie judge. What she lacks in experience, she more than makes up for in enthusiasm. In fact, she has offered to GIVE AWAY A FREE TATTOO to one lucky person at the show!!! Both competitors or audience members will have a chance at winning! Improvisor Tony Lawry, our next judge, will be a harsh critic, but that's only because he has been studying Air Guitar in Chicago since the 2011 Season, when Nordic Thunder was crowned National Champ. Tony expects that kind of greatness from each and every competitor. And anchoring the panel will be none other than the 2013 World Air Guitar Champion, Mean Melin, who is actually not as mean as you would think.
The doors open at 4:30, and the show starts at 5 (who doesn't enjoy day-drinking?)!
